European Roulette And American Roulette

Roulette is a popular casino game in Europe. Roulette is a comfortable, and leisurely game, that is enjoyed by many. The European game has a higher table limit but the casino advantage is lower. American Roulette is a more fast-paced kind of roulette game.

The difference between European roulette and North American roulette is as follows:

European Roulette does not have a double zero; therefore, its house edge is lower, down to 2.70%. Along with the "En Prison" option for the even-money wagers the house advantage is again lowered down to 1.35%. With this low house edge it is worthwhile to seek out a European-style table.

In American casinos, especially in Las Vegas, you might find it difficult to find roulette without the double zero. You may also find roulette games that permits the "Surrender" option, specifically in Atlantic City.

"En Prison" and "Surrender":

The difference between En Prison and Surrender: In Europe, if the wheel has a single zero all the even-money wagers are frozen, or put "En Prison", until a non-zero number is rolled; it will decide the fate of the bet. From a casino advantage of 2.70% it brings it down to 1.35%, for all that bet on even-money bets on the outside.

The same thing happens to "Surrender", it also lowers down the casino advantage in half for players who bet even-money, but not quite in the same way. Instead of frozen bets you will lose half of your bet if the zero is hit.

Table Layout and Seating:

In Europe, you will normally find two layouts for betting, with one single-zero wheel in the middle. The spinner is the one who operates the wheel. There is a dealer on both sides to watch the layout of the betting, and help with players placing bets.

In North America, it is customary to have one wheel with each betting layout. The position of the wheel is at the far side/top of the table. Sometimes a dealer is positioned behind the wheel and they are the one that controls the game.

Choose the seat that you are most comfortable with, and at the same time the seat that will suit your style of play. You can position yourself at the center, first base, second base, third base, and so on...

Wheel Chips and House Chips:

In Europe, players bet with similar chips or house checks. While in North America, the game of roulette uses a special chip, with varied colors, that are called "wheel chips". This kind of chip is unique, with a letter or design on top, that indicates which table it belongs to. One specific chip, for one specific game of roulette, is not transferable to any other table, or casino.

Wherever you are going to play roulette, just keep in mind to be prepared. Know the rules of the roulette game and you will get a lot more out of your gaming experience.
